The indoor/outdoor architectural element was key to this home’s design. The greatest challenge for Phil Kean Designs in Winter Park, Fla., was to create privacy and openness simultaneously. The solution was a design that incorporates indoor/outdoor living from the minute one walks through the front door. The door opens onto the lanai, allowing guests to pass through the courtyard/pool area. The great room, master bedroom and guest suite open directly onto the lanai, blurring the lines of indoor and outdoor areas. The porte cochere also emphasizes the inside/outside as guests drive through the house toward the motor court.
