Project name: Repp Residence
Project location: Barrio Blue Moon, Tucson, Ariz.
Square footage: 130 (bathroom only).
The objectives for Repp Design and Construction in Tucson, Ariz., were to create a spa-like experience within a compact footprint, maximize natural light while maintaining privacy, and a concealed, yet functional, vanity and storage. These objectives were also the challenges faced in the project.
To solve the challenge of balancing natural light and privacy, a wall of stacked glass was used because it allows natural light to fill the space while maintaining privacy. Custom-made wood windows were installed to allow for fresh air. The use of floor-to-ceiling glass tiles unifies and energizes the space. The tile continues to the exterior courtyard creating a connection to the outdoors. Glass, maple, zebrawood and aluminum achieve a modern and spa-like aesthetic. A maple plywood wall warms the space, and conceals a make-up vanity and drawers for storage. The zebrawood vanity with glass countertop appears to float above the floor, and the tub filler in the ceiling creates a unique and unexpected appearance.
