The objective for The Carver Group in Travelers Rest, S.C., was to build a Craftsman-style home that would appeal to the client’s contemporary tastes while blending into an established mountain lake community. The focus was to minimize the lake views while creating a functional, low-maintenance base for an active lifestyle.

The stained concrete lower-level floor was one challenge that was solved by having the floor stained after pouring and covered with housewrap. The center section of the home was a steel skeleton that was wrapped with finished wood. And, the interior walls were framed and applied with stone veneer.

The desire for open spaces was accomplished by not attaching the cabinet walls to the ceiling and having the fireplace separate the living and dining rooms. A round, textured copper flue cover was custom fabricated to cover an exposed flue.
