Weathering the storm
Many people are affected by the tight economy these days. Whether its from layoffs, salary freezes, uncertain job future or other new changes, people are more conscious of how they spend money. For the last year and a half my husband and I have been in that place. With him attending graduate school and relying on one income, we had to really weigh what was a need and what was a want. Tightening up our wallets made us really appreciate the little things such as being able to go out for a nice restaurant every few months instead of once a week; and buying each other a card instead of a lot of large gifts.
As builders and designers in a market that has been touched more so than other areas by the economy, you are most likely experiencing the need to really look at what you should spend your money on. Should you attend tradeshows, and if so, which ones are more valuable than others. Should you attend classes, where and which ones. Should you outsource help or do it in-house.
The new atmosphere we’re living in makes us deal with situations and decisions we’re not necessarily used to. But in the long run, it will make us better individuals and professionals. The changes are tough but by facing them head on, you will weather the storm and come out in full force once you’re past it.
